Atelier Kastelet - art gallery & caffe
An architect as well as a sculptor, Meštrović designed his own house in Split, which is now a museum representing his artistic legacy. Atelier Kaštelet is located directly beneath it.
Let’s define an atelier so that we can understand our venue better:
“(French: [atəlje]) is the private workshop or studio of a professional artist in the fine or decorative arts, where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing pieces of fine art or visual art released under the master's name or supervision.” For Meštrović his atelier was place of work and inspiration. Located below a scenic road and secluded in maritime pines, the building is situated on the western edge of Split on the Dalmatian Coast. The property is just over a mile from the Roman walls that protected the city’s historical centre and close to the Jezinac Beach, one of the most picturesque bathing spots in the region. The entire area is blessed with beautiful vegetation and sublime views of the surrounding islands. Atelier Kaštelet’s distinctive architectural style provides a stunning contrast to the rocky landscape and emerald green waters of the Adriatic, with a majestic scenery a perfect place for relaxing.
